Reading, Discussion and Open Mic (for young people ages 13-24)

Whitman-Walker Health presents an evening of readings, open mic performances by DC youth, and a panel discussion on strengthening understanding, connections, and support for LGBTQ youth in our families. Laurin will share a reading from One-of-a-Kind Like Me and join in a short discussion on LGBT youth acceptance and a Floetic Friday open mic night with “acceptance” as the theme. Young people ages 13-24 are invited to join us as we commemorate the start of the 2016-2017 school year.

Workshop: When Gender Boxes Don’t Fit: Engaging Children and Families Around Gender Diversity

Laurin will facilitate this workshop, presented by First Five Alameda County. Our responses to children and families can make it harder or easier for children of all gender identities and gender expressions to explore and be who they are. This workshop will provide information, exercises, and resources to help providers talk about gender diversity with young children and their families in an affirming way.

Providers from all disciplines who serve children ages 0-5 and their families in Alameda County are welcome to attend.
